Award-winning filmmaker E. Chai Vasarhelyi and world-renowned photographer and mountaineer Jimmy Chin have partnered with National Geographic Documentary Films to tell an extraordinary story that literally has to be seen to be believed. In June of 2017, already-legendary climber Alex Honnold dropped jaws and made history by scaling the nearly 3,000-foot granite wall known as El Capitan without a rope or safety gear. It was an iconic achievement that The New York Times called “one of the greatest athletic feats of any kind ever." Free Solo is the story of both the man and the climb and it is an experience you won’t soon forget. The last twenty minutes of the film are totally riveting (and absolutely gut-wrenching). We were proud to be a part of it.
